Reading Dance in the Musical

New from Samantha Quy, well known London Dancer, Teacher and Flamenco Performer

Special introductory price of £15 plus p&p

Inspired by over a hundred sources, this book draws on a range of fields such as structuralism, linguistics, non verbal communication, semiotics, hermeneutics, cultural studies, sociology, psychology, proxemics, kinesics, history, and film studies. It shows how methodologies from sociology and psychology can be applied to the analysis of the body and dance movement. While individuals in an audience will interpret the musical individually, this book looks at how and why we communally come to read the information in the way that we do.

Author Samantha Quy (MA Dance Studies, distinction) began her professional dance career in London’s West End Musicals. For the past six years, she danced in a variety of productions at the Royal Opera House, Barbican and Royal Albert Hall. Highlights of her screen career include the BBC documentary Manet, and recent 3D film Carmen. Hailed by “The Stage” newspaper as “exceptional talent”, her considerable dance experience illuminates her writing.

Samantha is currently collaborating on a dance short film, and teaching flamenco in London. She hopes this book will benefit dance students around the world.
